Police Chase That Started In New Orleans Ends With Fiery Fatal Crash In Lafayette
One person is dead after a police chase that spanned three Louisiana cities ended in a fiery crash.
UPDATE: All lanes are now open as of Thursday at 4 a.m.
According to a report from The Advocate via WBRZ, the police chase started when Iberville Parish deputies spotted a stolen vehicle out of the New Orleans area en route to Lafayette.
The deputies were assisted by Louisiana State Police who were eventually able to spike the vehicle that ultimately crashed in Lafayette near the Louisiana Avenue exit on I-10. The report states that the stolen vehicle crashed into a maintenance truck, causing them both to go up in flames.
We do know that someone was killed in the crash, but Louisiana State Police didn't have many details to give at this moment.
As of 10:17 p.m., I-10 West is closed at Louisiana Avenue and also near the Lobdell exit where traffic is being diverted to LA Hwy 415 N to US Hwy 190 W.
The two people inside of the maintenance truck were reportedly transferred to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Drivers are being asked to avoid the area if possible.
