New Lafayette High Transportation Plan Causing Traffic Issues
As a result of the recent phone threat to Lafayette High School late last week, a new policy regarding dropping off and picking up students was put into effect starting today (9/30). As a result, traffic congestion was higher than normal and more than one student was late arriving for school.
The new plan calls for no drop-offs in the parking lot on Congress (aka. the English lot). Only tag-permitted cars will be able to enter the lot. Also, dropping students off in the loop will only take place after 6:45 pm once all the buses have departed. The plan is to have vehicles turn on to Marie Antoinette and enter the school property between the practice field and the softball field. After dropping off the student, the cars will make their way to Foreman where they will be required to turn left. At 7 a.m, the back gates will be closed and students will have to be dropped off in the front loop and checked in.
After school, bus riders will be dismissed at 2:35 p.m. and then car riders/walkers at 2:40 p.m. All students who are car riders will have to be picked up in the front loop, as the lot next to the loop will still be limited to tag-permitted vehicles only. While this is likely to cause increased traffic, school officials aren't taking any chances when it comes to the safety of the students. Be aware of this change especially if you are going to be traveling down Congress between 6:30 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. to potentially adust your drive time accordingly.
