NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ Cancelled…In Utah
Oh, relax. Critics have been over the moon for NBC's darkly delicious Bryan Fuller drama 'Hannibal,' and while ratings have occasionally proven soft, most would agree 'Hannibal' has a good chance of returning for season 2. Less agreeable is that of infamous Utah broadcasting station KSL TV, which has flatly refused to air the NBC drama for its dark content. Find out about the latest 'Hannibal' scandal inside!
NBC's 'Hannibal' had earlier garnered a bit of attention for its decision not to broadcast recent episode "Ceuf," subbing in another episode while making the potentially offensive hour available online. Today we've learned that Salt Lake City TV station KSL TV has taken things a bit further apparently, refusing to broadcast any additional episodes of the series!
“After viewing the past few episodes, as well as receiving numerous complaints from viewers, KSL TV will cancel the airing of the NBC show Hannibal on Thursday evenings,” the station posted on its website. “This decision was made due to the extensive graphic nature of this show. The time slot will be replaced with a special edition of KSL 5 News at 9 p.m. NBC remains a valued partner to KSL TV. KSL is confident that with the proliferation of digital media, those who wish to view the program can easily do so.”
This isn't the first time the Church of Latter Day Saints-owned station has objected to TV content, specifically NBC series, as KLS TV has previously refused to air both 'The Playboy Club' and 'The New Normal.' NBC had no comment on the matter, but sources report that 'Hannibal' will likely air in Utah through the local CW affiliate.
Well, what say you? Does KSL TV have a point about 'Hannibal's disturbing content? Is the gruesome series too raw for broadcast TV to handle? Watch the latest trailer below and judge for yourself in the comments!
