In a wild and unexpected chain of events out of Lexington, Mississippi, funeral home embalmers where shocked to discover a man that was presumed dead, alive and kicking inside of a body bag.

The Clarion-Ledger reported that 78-year-old farmer Walter Williams was pronounced dead by the coroner at his home on Wednesday night. About five hours later at the Porter and Sons Funeral Home in Lexington, Williams woke up inside the bag as he was being prepared to be embalmed.

Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said:

I asked the coroner what happened, and the only thing he could say is that it's a miracle!

Coroner Dexter Howard was the one who pronounced Williams dead on the scene by checking his pulse. He said:

I did my part in checking him, I filed my paperwork, and we were ready to make the removal. We got him to the funeral home, and into the embalming room and noticed the kicking, and he began to breathe.

Williams' nephew, Eddie Hester, told WAPT-TV:

He stood there and watched them put him in a body bag and zipped it up. I don't know how long he's going to be here, but I know he's back right now. That's all that matters!

Coroner Dexter Howard said the cause of the incident may have been from his pacemaker stopping and then starting up again.
