The American Music Awards -- one of the less relevant of the many pop music awards shows -- took place last night. Like many recent mainstream awards shows, the show lacks an understanding of rock music. The only acknowledgment of the genre came in the form of categories, where it was placed besides pop in five separate sectors. Interestingly, they arguably didn't contain a single rock artist. (An argument can be made for a few names, such as Imagine Dragons and Maroon 5, but none are readily accepted by the rock community.) See the categories and their respective winners thus far below.

Favorite Female Artist Pop/Rock:
Camila Cabello

Perhaps what has most people in complete confusion is the fact that rap trio Migos took home the award for Favorite Duo/Group - Pop/Rock. For starters, while they may be considered pop, they certainly aren't rock. At least Favorite Male Artist Pop/Rock winner Post Malone has performed with Aerosmith and has an outspoken love for rock and metal music.

So how are the nominees chosen? According to the AMA website, "The AMA nominees are based on key fan interactions as reflected through Billboard, including streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay, social activity and touring."

Nonetheless, as you can see below, people are completely perplexed.

Regardless of the understandably confused reactions, they won. You can watch their acceptance speech below.
