A legislation that proposes authorizing legal dispensaries for medical marijuana in Louisiana got full backing from a legislative panel today.

The Senate Committee on Health and Welfare advanced the bill to the full Senate without objection from any of it's members. This heightens the possibility that Louisiana patients who suffer from certain diseases will be able to use medical marijuana without any legal issues.

Louisiana did legalize the prescription and use of medical marijuana back in 1991, but there's no law in place that says it can be dispensed. There is no middleman. This bill is looking to change that.

The bill would legalize medical marijuana only in some forms. It wouldn't be available in smokable forms. It would also be restricted to patients suffering from glaucoma, spastic quadriplegia and for those undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
