The Louisiana Department of Health has issued its daily update for Thursday, May 14th.

There are now 33,489 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Louisiana. That number is up 827 since yesterday.

The large increase is due in part to an influx of old results from labs that are just now being reported, including a large lab reporting 609 cases administered as early as March. Nevertheless, this marks the biggest single-day COVID-19 case count increase reported by the state since April 10.

Numbers show that there are 1,193 reported COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized - 1 less than yesterday.

140 patients are on ventilators across the state. That is 7 less than yesterday.

The total number of deaths reported due to the coronavirus is now at 2,351 an increase of 36 since yesterday.

As of today, 22,608 COVID-19 patients are presumed to have recovered. That's 2,292 more recovered patients since last week.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the Acadiana region is 1,953 (up 23 cases since yesterday) with 170 deaths reported (9 new deaths reported).

Lafayette Parish: 541 cases, 23 deaths

Iberia Parish: 352 cases, 33 deaths

(No new cases with 7 new deaths reported since yesterday.)

St. Martin Parish: 278 cases, 22 deaths

(2 new cases and no new deaths since yesterday.)

(6 new cases, 1 new death reported since yesterday.)

St. Landry Parish: 244 cases, 51 deaths

(Up 3 cases with no new deaths reported since yesterday)

Acadia Parish: 159 cases, 11 deaths

(Up 8 cases, no new deaths since yesterday.)

Evangeline Parish: 74 cases, 1 death

(No new cases since yesterday, no new deaths since yesterday.)

Vermilion Parish: 42 cases, 2 deaths

(No new cases, no new deaths since yesterday.)
