A South Carolina man is facing federal charges because he refilled his drink without paying the $.89 a refill costs.

WIST reports the on-site construction worker, Christopher Lewis, said he wasn't aware that there was a charge for refills at the VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

Get this...a hospital spokesperson called it "theft of government property." (PFFFFTTTT!! COME ON, MAN!)

For not paying the $.89 for the refill, Lewis was slapped with a ticket by the Federal Police Force that will end up costing him $525!

According to a hospital spokesperson there are signs posted on the premises explaining that refills are not free. Lewis claims he never noticed the signs, and admits that he had refilled his drinks on multiple occasions.

He was stopped by someone claiming to be the chief of police. He says he tried to pay the $.89, but wasn't allowed to. He says he wasn't allowed to pay the cashier either.

"As I was filling my cup up, I turned to walk off and a fella grabbed me by the arm and asked me was I going to pay for that, and I told him I wasn't aware that I had to pay for that."

"I never had an option to make right what I had done wrong."

Lewis is now out of a job. He was given the ticket and told not to return to the property.

"I'm done there, at the VA hospital. I'm not allowed to go on the premises anymore. I asked him can I still work on the job site and just bring my lunch and not got to the cafeteria and he said he wanted me off the premises."

Is this real life?
