Make Your Own Marshmallow Peeps, Whether It’s Easter Or Not [Video]
Easter features some of the tastiest treats of all times like Cadbury Creme Eggs and Heavenly Hash. (But not Mini Eggs. Whoever invented those chalky chocolate tablets clearly didn’t get Easter candy as a kid and is trying to punish the rest of us.)
Marshmallow Peeps may also be a traditional Easter candy, but they are still good on every other day on the calendar.
Of course, they aren’t always available when you’ve got a craving for one. And if you’re like us, those cravings are every waking minute of every day. Our blood sugar levels still haven’t forgiven us.
Thankfully, there is a way that you can have them no matter what day it is. It turns out you can actually make them at home.
We found a couple of different ways to do this, but the basic recipe involves making homemade marshmallows and shaping them into the familiar shape of edible chicks.
The Kitchn has the full recipe for making your own marshmallows along with some tips on making them look and taste like the Peeps that you buy in the store. Warning: it sounds like it can be quite messy if you’re not careful. No one ever said creating deliciousness wasn’t a dirty job.
If you’re interested in making them look exactly like the Peeps you buy in the store, CHOW has an added step that shows you how to shape them with a pastry bag. It’s an extra step between cooking and eating until you can’t move, but there’s nothing wrong with a little presentation in your favorite binging food.
