The LSU Tigers recorded an SEC road victory on Saturday afternoon, edging past the 21st-ranked Florida Gators, 17-16, in Gainesville, Florida.

For LSU, it was their first conference win of the year in two tries, while Florida fell in league action for the first time in four games, in a game that ended up being decided by a missed conversion attempt.

LSU got on the scoreboard first, at the 1:22 mark of the first quarter, when Russell Gage scored on a 30-yard touchdown run, capping off an 11-play, 86-yard drive, to give them a 7-0 lead.

Florida scored their first points of the game at the 4:01 mark of the second quarter, when Eddy Pineiro connected on a 25-yard field goal, concluding an 11-play, 70-yard drive, to trim the deficit to 7-3.

The Tigers scored right before the end of the half, at the :25 mark, when Connor Culp kicked through a 38-yard field goal, ending a 9-play, 54-yard drive, to extend their lead to 10-3, an advantage they would take with them as the teams headed into their respective locker rooms for halftime.

LSU outgained Florida, in terms of total yards in the first half, 204-135, including a 133-68 advantage in rushing yards, as well as a 71-67 edge in passing yards.

Gage led the Tigers in the first half, with 46 rushing yards and a touchdown on 4 carries, while Malik Davis paced the Gators, with 39 yards on 6 carries.

LSU scored on their first possession of the second half, when Danny Etling hit Tory Carter with a short 2-yard touchdown pass, culminating a 9-play, 75-yard drive, to widen their lead to 17-3 at the 10:56 mark of the third quarter.

Florida answered right back on their first possession of the second half however, when Lamical Perine capped of a 7-play, 45-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run, trimming the deficit to 17-10 with 7:39 to go in the third period.

The Gators tightened things up at the 1:45 mark of the third quarter, when Perine scored on his second touchdown run of the game, this one on a short 2-yard plunge, ending a 7-play, 75-yard drive, to make it 17-16.

The PAT was unsuccessful however, and LSU was still clinging to a 1-point lead.

That missed conversion turned out to be the difference in the game, as the Tigers held on for the 17-16 triumph.

LSU outgained Florida, in terms of total yards, 341-302, including a 125-108 advantage in passing yards, as well as a 216-194 edge is rushing yards.

Etling led the way for the Tigers, completing 9-of-16 passes for 125 yards and one touchdowns, while Derrius Guice contributed 50 yards on 17 carries.

In a losing cause for the Gators, Davis accumulated 90 yards on 14 carries.

With the victory, LSU improved to 4-2, overall, and 1-1 in SEC play, while Florida slipped to 3-2, and 3-1, respectively.

The Tigers return to action next Saturday, when they host the Auburn Tigers in an SEC contest.
