Typically, Louisiana license plates are letter letter letter, then, number number number.

We're running out of letter and number sequences! Like, so much so, that it's less than a year away...

"We think in the next 12 months, the next year, we anticipate rotating the sequence and changing it to number, number, number and letter, letter, letter, which should give us another 20 years to issue those configurations," said State Police Lt. J.B. Slaton.

When will the new plates start being produced? At this time it is unclear, but Slaton says that it could be within the next 8 months.

The state has about 4 million registered cars and trucks, and offers around 250 prestige plates, such as the LSU, Saints, and a wide range of causes, which receive some of the proceeds.
