According to a survey that had Louisiana ranked at number 38 last year, this year it appears that low senior population and crime rate has a lot to do with why Louisiana is ranked the worst state in which to retire. Keep reading to find out more on why this is the case.

In compiling its rankings, the website says it weighs five factors: size of senior population; economic factors including average cost of living, taxes and unemployment; crime rates; climate; and life expectancy at age 65.

Louisiana was ranked No. 49 in the nation in the senior population category and No. 47 for its crime rate. Its best category was economic factors, in which it is No. 11.

"The home of the bayou and the Big Easy has its charms, but it also has some of the worst crime rates in the country, and some of the lowest life expectancies for its elderly population," says the website. "It isn't just this survey that thinks Louisiana is a tough place for retirees: People have voted with their feet too. The state's population has a below-average proportion of elderly people, and that demographic has been growing at a slower pace than the elderly segment of most states."

With that being said, what are your plans when you retire? Do you plan on moving away, or staying here in Louisiana to live out the rest of your days?
