You most probably see someone doing this everyday. Throwing their cigarette butts on the ground anywhere. Right? I admit it, I'm even guilty of doing this. Well, the time for butt littering is coming to an end in Louisiana.
Louisiana lawmakers have passed a bill that will allow authorities to fine people who litter the ground with cigarette butts. The bill received final passage Monday with a unanimous House vote. The bill goes to Governor Bobby Jindal next and with his signature, puts the bill into effect.
Fines for cigarette butt littering will go as follows:
First offense carries a $300 fine and eight hours of community service in a litter cleanup program.
Second offense will cost $700 and require 16 hours of cleanup work.
Third offense violators could give up their driver's licenses for a year, pay a $1,500 fine and have to perform 80 hours of cleanup.
