The promise from President Barack Obama about the new health care law was that if you like your insurance you would be able to keep it under the law.  That's not what is happening for at least 80,000 people in Louisiana.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says thousands of people in Louisiana will not be able to keep their current insurance coverage under the new law.

Donelon says he requested information from Louisiana insurance companies about how many customers will no longer be allowed to have their same insurance plans under the President Barack Obama's health care law, and at least 80,000 will lose the coverage they have now.

Since a handful of agencies have not sent numbers back yet, he expects that figure to go up.  He thinks the number will be around 90,000 who will have their coverage canceled because of the new requirements under the law.

Donelon says most of these customers pay for their own insurance.
