Bossier City has had it with drivers who refuse to dangerously ignore laws and not stop for school buses who are picking and dropping off children, and they're doing something about it.

School Buses With Cameras To Catch Drivers Who Don't Stop

Bossier City Transportation Director David Hadden has a strong message to drivers who don't stop for school buses.

"Bossier citizens beware. About 125 of our buses have surveillance cameras that can capture license plates if the school bus is stopped and it has its stop arm out and you pass it you are most likely going to get an invitation to see the judge."

Hadden tells KTBS that Bossier Parish has 216 school buses in operation.

When a school bus stops and the stop signs come out, for the safety of the kids getting on or off of the school bus, drivers are required by law to stop until the bus is in motion again and the stop signs are retracted.

However, every morning and afternoon in Acadiana, and across the U.S., you'll routinely see drivers not stopping or even going around the school bus.

According to injuryfacts.nsc.org, between 2010 and 2020, 67 students were killed in school bus-related accidents, while over 46,000 students were injured.

Many of these deaths and injuries were carelessly caused by drivers not stopping for school buses.

Hopefully, every school bus will be equipped with cameras to catch drivers putting children's lives at risk by not stopping so kids can safely get on and off school buses.
