LCA Makes Statement in Victory Over Acadiana
The Lafayette Christian Academy Knights looked impressive on Friday night as they ran past the Acadiana High Wreckin' Rams 38-21 at Knight Field in Week 1 of the High School Football Season. All throughout the night, receivers blew past defensive coverages and ran wide open as Jr. QB Jajuan Johnson picked apart the Wreckin' Ram secondary in a passing display that was impressive to watch.
A long pass to Alex Beard led to LCA's first points of the night as the Knights struck first on a 4-yard sweep to TJ Marzell that gave the home team an early 7-0 lead. Then, the Wreckin' Rams fumbled the snap on the ensuing drive, setting up a Johnson touchdown pass to RB Dudley Jackson III and a 14-0 LCA lead by the end of the 1st Quarter.
Acadiana then answered with an impressive drive that was capped off by Ayden Trahan's short touchdown pass to RB Kevan Williams. A two-point conversion brought the Wreckin' Rams within 6 points.
Then, Johnson found WR Trae Grogan on an 88-yard pass that set up the Knights near the 5-yard line. But, a fumble by Johnson, who was on his way to what looked like a touchdown on the ground, gave Acadiana the chance to take the lead. But, LCA's defense stiffened at midfield and Johnson responded on the ensuing drive with an 80-yard TD pass to Alonzo Ryes to increase the lead to 21-8.
A Rylan Thomas field goal gave LCA a 24-8 lead at the half.
The Wreckin' Rams came out strong to start the second half as Trahan scored on a 3rd down by taking it in himself from 5 yards out and Williams then scored his second touchdown of the night when he ran one in himself and cut LCA's lead to 24-21.
But that was the last score for Acadiana as Johnson seized the momentum back for LCA following a great kick return as Johnson used his legs to run past the Wreckin' Rams for a rushing touchdown then threw a touchdown pass from 5 yards out to RB Luke Aragona for the eventual 38-21 margin.
The two teams are now tied at two games apiece in their series as LCA currently holds a 2-game winning streak over Acadiana,
Next up for the Knights is another home game as they host Woodlawn - Baton Rouge in a non district contest. Meanwhile, the Wreckin' Rams will return home to host the Sulphur Golden Tornadoes in an early start to district play.
