Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Is World’s Longest Bridge Over Water – Also Scary
The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge just north of New Orleans is now considered the longest bridge over water (continuous). It is also one of the scariest bridges...IN THE WORLD!
CNN ranked 10 of the world's longest bridges. After some Chinese engineering almost took away it's Guiness Book of World Records record for longest bridge in the world, complaints started flooding in saying that the project in China that is 25.84 miles long isn't over water the whole way. Only 16.1 miles of it are over open water.
All 23.87 miles of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is over open water. This prompted Guiness to give them a new title. Longest Bridge Over Water (Continuous).
Travel and Leisure put the Causeway in it's top scariest bridges IN THE WORLD! Due to it being only about 16 feet above the water, and that it seemingly ends.
