Lafayette Students Will Return to School with Hybrid Model
The Lafayette Parish School System is releasing its reopening plan for students that will have children going to a physical school site on some days and taking classes virtually on others.
In a plan sent to teachers and staff, LPSS announced students will be assigned group letters and will attend their school on their designated days. LPSS Schools Superintendent Irma D. Trosclair points out "teaching and learning models will be phase dependent."
As of now, the academic year will begin on Monday, August 17, 2020, in Phase 2. There are three phases listed. All learning will be required and grades will be recorded, starting in August.
Families will have the option to choose a 100% virtual learning environment for their children.
According to Lafayette Parish School Board Member Justin Centanni, if you go to a School of Choice, you will not lose your spot if you choose to do the virtual online academy. Centanni also points out if you go to the virtual academy, you can play sports at the school you are zoned for.
Superintendent Trosclair says that "plans are fluid and may evolve as we receive guidance from the Louisiana Department of Education, Louisiana Department of Health, and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association."
In looking at the plans released below, you can see how the following issues will be handled in each phase:
- Wi-Fi/Internet Connectivity
