Around twenty children are now safe after becoming stranded in the Vermilion River out by the airport Monday morning.

Lafayette Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. John Mowell says deputies with their marine unit were able to tow the children to safety, after flash flooding impacted the boat they were in as part of a tour.

No injuries were reported.
