Friday evening the Lafayette Police Department will start an OWI checkpoint that will last through Saturday morning at 3 o'clock.

Police will be looking to find impaired drivers and remove them from our roadways.

The checkpoint will be somewhere withing the city limits of Lafayette, and Police were arrested people who are impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Police say they always respond with zero tolerance when it comes to impaired driving.

The best advice police can give to the public is to plan ahead. Never drive when you have been drinking and always designate a sober driver while you are making your plans.

Besides going to jail, getting arrested for OWI can be very costly, not only in terms of the lives that can be lost, but the financial burden of having to go to court.
