Lafayette Man Arrested, Accused Of Biting Head Off Of Small Alligator
A Lafayette man was arrested for animal cruelty after he was accused of killing an alligator.
That was totally an understatement. The man, 23-year-old Clayton Voorhies, was arrested after he allegedly bit the head off of a foot-long alligator as two other men looked on.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said that Voorhies was arrested on August 12 after "viciously killing a young alligator" at the Spring Bayou Wildlife Management Area in Avoyelles Parish back on June 1.
According to the Advocate, the two other men were identified as 22-year-old Joshua Walker and 55-year-old Jules Walker who were each ticketed for "illegal possession of an alligator."
Aggravated cruelty to animals brings a $5,000 to $25,000 fine and one to 10 years in jail. Taking an alligator during a closed season and illegal possession of an alligator both carry a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense.
Voorhies was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and taking an alligator during a closed season.
