Two amazing young men in Lafayette are asking for your donations as part of a diaper drive for those less fortunate in Lafayette and all of Acadiana. As parents, there are always lessons we are wanting our children to learn. In my experience as a father of two, I have learned that kids learn more by watching and doing than by just being told.

Julian and Isaac Williams are learning lessons in service thanks to their father John, their mother Kathryn, and a community full of civic-minded individuals who support an organization called Love of People. The way they are helping is by collecting diapers.

Yeah, these young boys are dedicating part of their summer to helping those innocent little ones whose families either can't afford or are not in a position to procure diapers for their smallest members. But don't think this is their first foray into sharing with those less fortunate than themselves, this is a diaper drive that is seven years in the making.

This is the seventh year that Julian and now his brother Isaac who is a few years younger have worked with their parents and countless others on this selfless endeavor. For the longest time, this is how Julian celebrated his birthday by giving to others, now he is sharing that altruistic spirit and teaching it to his younger brother Isaac.

The mission of the Williams Brothers diaper drive is to make sure that no parent has to worry about providing this basic need for their child. In some cases the need is economic. In other cases, the family is in need because of circumstances beyond their control. The diapers collected are shared freely with those who need them but especially with those in shelters or situations where there is no alternative.

How you can help is really quite simple, the next time you are at your favorite store purchasing items for your family, think of the Williams Brothers and their DIaper Drive. If you could pick up a pack, a box, a case, or a pallet load and drop them off for the drive you'd not only be honoring the spirit of giving that Acadiana is known for but you'd be helping these young men keep their promise to make their community a better place for all families.

Diaper donations are accepted at Hub City Ford, a great community steward. Also, diapers may be dropped off at the Lafayette Visitors Center on the Evangeline Thruway. Other businesses that have opened their hearts and doors to support the mission are Rise P.T., Fit Girl, Drip IV Therapies and St. Barnabas Church.  Each of these locations is a drop-off point.

What we need are diapers. We need diapers for newborns, infants, children, and adults. The diaper drive is also accepting "diaper" donations for our South Louisiana "fur babies" too.

Compassion comes in all sizes and these two young boys with the help of their family and spearheaded by community-minded people like you are daring to make a difference at an early age. They are learning that true joy and the real "Love of People" comes from a giving heart and an impassioned spirit.

The mission of Love of People is "Helping Others.....Help Others". And the best way to instil that kind of spirit in a community is by teaching that community the value of giving early in life. Won't you help Julian and Isaac complete this part of their mission? The need is real and so is the solution.

We can sit back and watch the need grow bigger or we can take action with a loving and caring heart and truly make our community the kind of community that cares for all people. From the tiniest child to the most amazing seniors, and even some of our animal friends who are looking for a heart to love this is our chance to get out of our own problems and help someone out of theirs.

The Williams Brothers Diaper Drive will run through July 28th. With your help, the shelves at the Love of People Offices will be filled with diapers for those families in need long before that deadline
