Goodness knows the past several days the weather radar screens across South Louisiana have been full. But our weather radars have been returning echoes of showers and strong thunderstorms. This was not the case earlier this week in Southern California.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service Office in San Diego tweeted this capture of a radar scan that took place on Tuesday evening. That green blob you see on the screen is not precipitation. It's ladybugs.

If you're wondering a swarm of ladybugs is called a bloom. And this isn't the first time a bloom of ladybugs has been picked up by weather radars across Southern California. Entomologists studying the phenomenon say the ladybugs will often move from the valleys to the much cooler mountain areas during the summer months.
