The new NBC show ‘Smash’s’ key demographic (music loving women and people revolting against ‘Glee’) and their very patient male partners shouldn’t have any problem recognizing the show’s underdog star — Katharine McPhee. She first popped up on our TV during the fifth season of ‘American Idol’ and quickly became one of the show’s breakout stars.

She went on to have a fairly prolific music career, even for the likes of a former ‘American Idol’ contestant including several soundtrack singles for movies like ‘The House Bunny’ that featured her singing a cover of The Waitresses’ ‘I Know What Boys Like’ and an original song for the Disney movie ‘Tinker Bell.’ Her most recent album ‘Unbroken’ debuted at 27 on the Billboard chart and Forbes ranked her as the 10th most successful ‘American Idol’ alum.

Oh, and did we mention that she’s smoking hot? Check out some shots from her recent pictorial for GQ to promote ‘Smash.’ Based on these pictures alone, we’re sure we would have voted for her over Taylor Hicks if we actually watched the show with any kind of personal opinion or interest.
