Did anyone else notice the smoke in the Lafayette area on Monday afternoon?

Like many of you, I too thought that a field was on fire just outside of Lafayette, but that may not have been the case at all.

Many on social media were asking why it was so smokey and now we may have an answer, thanks to our friend at KATC TV-3.

Meteorologist Rob Perillo suggested that the smoke that swept across the area on Monday afternoon may have come from a sugar cane field that was on fire in POINT COUPEE PARISH!

With the northeasterly wind on Monday afternoon in the area, you can see on the radar below a plume of smoke being pushed further south towards Lafayette, thus making it very hazy out.

So, if you were curious as to where all of the smoke was coming from today, it may have travelled from several miles to reach the Lafayette area.
