Jared Leto's penchant for method acting led him down a truly bizarre path during his time as the Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. The actor admitted in a recent interview that sending his fellow cast members used condoms and anal beads helped him establish a specific mood on set.

"At least [the condoms] were used," he said, though he's adamant there was a reason for it. "I did a lot of things to create a dynamic, to create an element of surprise, of spontaneity and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there. The Joker is somebody that doesn't really respect things like personal space or boundaries.”

Fellow Suicide Squad star Will Smith agreed that Leto's bizarre gifts changed the atmosphere on set: "He went full Joker. And the rule generally is never go full Joker. But he really set the tone. He wasn’t playing with it, he was dead serious as an actor. He was going in and he was 100% going into this character, and he really jarred the rest of us into ‘Okay, okay, he’s not fooling around so we need to get it right.’”

Viola Davis echoed Smith's thoughts during her interview with Vanity Fair, where she relayed the story of Leto giving the cast a dead pig.

“Now I’m terrified as a person thinking, ‘Is he crazy?’ but the second part was, ‘Oh sh—t! I got to have my stuff together,’” she said. “You talk about commitment. And then he sends Margot Robbie a black rat. It was still alive in a box. She screamed, and then she kept it.”
