Texas Lottery Confirms Powerball Win Monday Night
You probably heard about the $2 million Powerball win in Bay City, Texas just a week or so ago, right? The big money ticket was a Match 5 Million winner and the player who purchased the ticket opted for the Power Play option of the game. Well, that was then, and this is now. Once again we are pleased to report the Texas Lottery has again confirmed a big money win in the Lone Star State.
Just before Monday night's Powerball drawing it was confirmed the estimated jackpot prize was $209 million for the annuitized jackpot. A ticket matching all the numbers on Monday night might have opted for the lump sum prize which was reported to be $105.3 million at the time of Monday's drawing.
If you didn't see the drawing, here is how it played out.
If you're not familiar with how the Powerball game works it's pretty straightforward. A player selects, or in the case of most winners, the Powerball computer selects five numbers ranging from 1 to 69. Those are the "white ball numbers". A sixth number, the Powerball, is the red ball number and is chosen either by the player or a computer in a range of numbers between 1 and 26.
The cost of a Powerball ticket is $2. If you opt to add the Power Play feature it will cost an extra dollar. To me, it just makes sense to spend the extra dollar because you'll be kicking yourself if you don't. But I also don't believe in spending money you can't afford to lose, so I do understand why some players choose not to improve their opportunity to win a larger prize.
For example, in the Bay City win from a week ago, would you have spent one dollar for an extra million dollars? It's something to consider when you choose to play the Powerball game.
Winners Confirmed in Monday's Powerball Drawing
There was no jackpot winner for the drawing on Monday night, September 23, 2024. The largest prize noted by Powerball was a one million dollar win on a ticket sold in Pennsylvania. The second largest prize of the evening was won by a ticket purchased through the Texas Lottery network of retailers.
Our sources at the Texas Lottery in Austin confirmed that a Texas-sold ticket matched four of the five white ball numbers and the Powerball. That ticket holder also opted for the Power Play feature. The prize amount associated with that ticket is confirmed at $150,000.
A second ticket sold in Texas for Monday night also matched that same winning scenario. However, the purchasers of that winner did not opt for the Power Play. Their prize is confirmed to be $50,000. Would it have been worth the extra buck? In this case, most of us would say, yeah it probably would have been.
Texas Had How Many Powerball WInners on Monday?
My sources at the Texas Lottery have revealed that 30,694 tickets sold for Monday's Powerball drawing in the state won at least $2 bucks. The Texas Lottery also confirmed that more than 2,500 tickets sold for Monday night won a prize of $7 bucks. So, I guess it was a pretty good night to play Powerball in Texas.
If you'd like to verify your tickets and see if you were one of those winners all you need to do is visit the Official Texas Lottery Website or the Official Powerball Website. Those sites will confirm your prize amount and the Texas Lottery site will direct you on how to claim your winnings.
Based on our unofficial observation of Monday's drawing the numbers that rolled out of the hopper for September 23, 2024, were:
15 21 25 37 45 Powerball 19 Power Play x3
Use those numbers for reference but do verify your ticket at the official sites we've noted above before you start making a mad dash to collect your cash.
Wednesday's Powerball jackpot will be an estimated $223 million for the annuity. The lump sum or "cash" prize is estimated to be $112.2 million on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Mega Millions game, the other multi-state lottery game that is available in Texas will draw on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, for an estimated annuitized top prize of $62 million.
Another game you might consider on Wednesday is Lotto Texas with Extra! The jackpot in that Texas Lottery game is estimated to be $22.25 million.
