Let's face it, a great Texas day starts with a cup of coffee, or in the case of a lot of us two cups of coffee. We Texans are like the diesel motors they build at Gulf Coast Engine in South Houston, we start slow but once we get running, we are good to go for a long time.

A nice hot cup of Joe helps us with that. Did you know Texas has an Official Coffee? The Lone Star State does and it's Seaport Coffee and it's made by some folks that have been waking up Texas since 1921, that's the crew at the Texas Coffee Company in Beaumont.

Now, if we are being honest, some Texans that live along and close to the Sabine River might just have the envie for some Louisiana flavor in their coffee, the brand of the Bayou State is Community Coffee, and it's good. Have you tried it with chicory?

But outside of Texas, other than Louisiana,  when you mention coffee you're talking about "Dunkin", if you're from the northeast. Or you're talking about Starbucks if you're from anywhere else. And while we speak of Seaport Coffee's influence on Texas let's be honest, there were 1,234 Starbucks locations in the state at the end of 2023 and I know of at least six others that have opened in 2024. So, Starbucks isn't hiding in the shadows.

Starbuck's rise to coffee prominence is an interesting tale. The company started out just selling beans and then someone got the bright idea to add hot water and the world changed. Change is an important word in Starbucks' glossary. The company is always evolving its menu and trying new products.

In fact, Starbucks recently revealed that 13 drinks will no longer be available at Texas locations, or any location for that matter as part of the annual spring menu revamp. The changes are set to occur on March 4th.

Let's face it, if these drinks were selling well Starbucks would keep them on the menu but since they are not you can bid the following choices goodbye from the Starbucks menu.

Those drinks include Iced Matcha Lemonade, Espresso Frappuccino, Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino, White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, Java Chip Frappuccino, Chai Crème Frappuccino, Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino, Double Chocolaty Chip Crème Frappuccino, Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino, White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino, White Hot Chocolate, Royal English Breakfast Latte, and Honey Almondmilk Flat White.

We asked around the office and no one on our staff had ever tried one of these drinks, so it might make sense that Starbucks is cutting their losses and opening up the menu for new drink ideas. My personal go-to Starbucks order is Caramel Machiatto with double shots, yeah my hands do shake a lot, why do you ask?

Hopefully, your favorite wake-up beverage isn't on the cut list. But if it is, don't worry, Starbucks will be revamping their menu again in the fall during pumpkin spice season so chances are you'll find something like between now and then anyway.
