Armed Louisiana Teen Steals Car with Dog Inside Resulting in Police Chase
The Hammond Police Department responded to a stolen vehicle report on Saturday, February 15th, that escalated into a multi-parish pursuit that evening.

A vehicle was reported stolen at approximately 7:45 p.m. Saturday from a Planet Fitness on West Thomas Street in Hammond. Chico, a one-year-old black Dutch Shepherd, was reportedly in the stolen vehicle.
WAFB reported that once Baton Rouge Police Officers spotted the vehicle, a pursuit began. The pursuit entered Livingston Parish, and additional local authorities began tracking the vehicle. LPSO reported shots being fired from the stolen vehicle.
The weapon the suspect was believed to be using was located around the Red Oak overpass
Shockingly, authorities took a 14-year-old boy into custody at the Holden exit once the vehicle came to a stop. However, authorities only located Chico's collar when they searched the car.
Deputies thought a second suspect may have been involved, but they later determined that just the male juvenile was responsible.
Thankfully, Chico has been found safe and reunited with his owner. However, details regarding where Chico was found and how they obtained that information have not been released.
The 14-year-old suspect was booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center in Covington, Louisiana.
This is an ongoing investigation; anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact any law enforcement agencies involved.
