The higher mortgage rates, costs for buying a home, and increased inflation for things like groceries are making life extremely difficult for many people in the state of Louisiana. There are two cities that are truly experiencing the squeeze according to an analysis by WalletHub.

When you are struggling to keep food on the table, paying the mortgage can be extremely difficult to do. When you miss a mortgage payment it sets in motion a snowball effect, where you likely will be hit with a late fee, your credit score will take a hit and if you continually can't pay the mortgage, the bank may foreclose on your home.

According to statistics from the Anney Casey Foundation, called the Alice Report, 42% of people in our state are struggling just to pay for the basics each month. If you are struggling for just the basics, then you are walking a serious line when it comes to being able to continue to avoid the mortgage. It's a grueling situation for many families in Louisiana.

While Louisiana has a significant issue of people being behind on their mortgages, Laredo, Texas takes the top spot in the country! 24% of homeowners in Laredo are delinquent on paying their mortgages.

Texas, like Louisiana, has other cities that made the list as well. Here is a paradox of the situation though; while cities like Laredo are struggling, the delinquency rate has, overall, gone down since last year so there is somewhat of a silver lining to this story.

The other scary statistic for Texas is that multiple cities are in the top ten list for home mortgage delinquencies.

One Louisiana City Struggling With Paying Their Home Loans Is........

Baton Rouge is ranked third in the country for cities with the highest rates of people unable to pay their mortgages. This percentage of people has missed one or more payments this year.

According to WalletHub, close to 15% of the people who hold mortgages in Baton Rouge are delinquent on their payments. In addition, that puts Baton Rouge just behind Detroit when dealing with percentages. The unemployment rate in Baton Rouge is 4%, much lower than Detroit's 7.8%, but Baton Rouge is still struggling to keep people's homes from being foreclosed on.

The economic picture for many people in Baton Rouge is very difficult, as WalletHub points out the following:

One contributing factor to Baton Rouge’s high delinquency rate is that it ranks 11th among the cities with the most people in financial distress. It also ranks seventh among the cities where people are most delinquent on debt in general.

If there is one bright piece of information about ranking third, it's that Baton Rouge did see a little bit of a drop in the rate of delinquencies in the first quarter of the year versus the second quarter of the year.
