UPDATE: Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette Reopened After Crash Knocks Down Utility Pole
A crash involving three vehicles has led to the closure of all northbound lanes of NE Evangeline Thruway near East Simcoe Street early this morning. The accident, which occurred at approximately 1:54 a.m., resulted in a utility pole being knocked down, causing traffic disruptions in the area.
UPDATE:
Lafayette Police Sergeant Robin Green says that as of 7:30 a.m., the Thruway is now open.
ORIGINAL STORY:
There have been no major injuries reported from the incident. However, the downed traffic signal pole has left the roadway unsafe, causing authorities to close all three lanes northbound. Crews are currently on the scene working to remove and replace the damaged utility pole.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area as the closure is expected to last for several hours, with traffic congestion particularly heavy as vehicles detour near downtown Lafayette. Alternate routes are strongly recommended to minimize delays Thursday morning (Oct. 3).
The Lafayette Police Department urges motorists to exercise caution and have patience while detouring through the affected areas. We will provide updates once the roadway reopens.
