MAMOU, La. (KPEL News) - A Louisiana city is still reeling from the second shooting in two days, this time during Mardi Gras.

A gunman opened fire in Mamou, Louisiana on Tuesday while revelers were otherwise enjoying the day. But a live performance turned into mass panic when the rapid-fire sound of gunshots interrupted the festivities.

The moment was captured on social media, and you can clearly hear the gunfire and the screams when all hell broke loose.

Mamou and State Police Still Investigating

Another video on social media appears to show law enforcement putting handcuffs on at least one individual after the shooting. Meanwhile, the Mamou Police Department has confirmed one victim died at the scene.

Louisiana State Police is also involved in the investigation, KATC reports.

The shooting came less than 24 hours after a Monday night shooting that left three injured. According to reports, it also took place during a performance, this one on Sixth Street.

"Sickening" Moment in Mamou

One social media user shared a video from the crowd during the Mardi Gras celebration while artist Chris Ardoin was on stage. But a few seconds later, you hear a faint sound, and some in the audience start panicking. Then the sound becomes clearer, and the entire crowd starts to flee the scene.

"I am literally sick to my stomach," ShaLonda Lavalais Eggins wrote in the caption of the Facebook Reel.

In a separate post, she briefly described in her own words what she experienced.

Changes in Mardi Gras Rules

Both shootings occurred after Mamou Police had implemented new safety rules meant to "ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone."

Among the security changes, police said, were a strict ban of firearms - whether owners had a concealed or open carry permit.
