South Louisiana’s Mardi Gras season is already in full effect. With the Krewe de Rio Ball kicking off the festivities at the Cajundome this weekend (Jan. 11), locals should take note of a major change. As of January 1, 2025, the Cajundome and Convention Center has gone completely cashless for all concerts and events.

The new policy applies to all point-of-sale locations, from concessions to merchandise. Accepted payment methods include credit and debit cards, prepaid gift cards, and digital wallet options like Apple Pay or Google Pay.

For those accustomed to bringing cash to events like Mardi Gras balls—a common practice, especially for attendees who don’t carry large purses or wallets—the Cajundome website offers a simple solution. Prepaid Visa gift cards can be purchased on-site at the Cajundome Box Office or at a designated convention center lobby location, available in denominations of $25, $50, or $100. These cards can be used at any Cajundome event or anywhere Visa is accepted.

But do you really want to stand in two lines to get a drink?

While some concessions or merchandise stands may still accept cash at select events, it’s always best to plan ahead. The cashless transition aligns the Cajundome with other major venues like the Superdome, which has required digital tickets and cashless payments for years.

Casey Boudreaux White, a representative of the Cajundome, shared that the venue is fully prepared to assist attendees with the transition. In addition to Mardi Gras balls, they’re gearing up for major concerts featuring Rod Wave, Rascal Flatts, and Cody Johnson, ensuring a smooth experience at every event.

To make the most of your evening, remember: use your card or tap to pay for your concessions and drinks and use your cash for tipping the hardworking bartenders! Be safe, and Happy Mardi Gras to all!
