In a moment of panic and fear, one Lafayette grandmother is saying she found hope and kindness from complete strangers. Carol Barras, who was driving through River Ranch with her husband and one-year-old granddaughter Josie, experienced every grandparent’s worst nightmare when baby Josie suffered a severe seizure in the car.

Unable to immediately reach 911, Carol pulled into the orthopedic parking lot on Camellia Blvd., unsure of what to do next. That’s when three Good Samaritans rushed to her aid, stepping in with compassion and quick thinking. Not only did they call 911, they provided care to little Josie, and comforted the distraught grandparents until emergency responders arrived.

Thanks to the swift response of these Good Samaritans, Josie was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where she quickly received the treatment she needed. Carol took to social media to express her gratitude, saying she hopes to one day thank these women in person.

"I'm deeply moved by the kindness of these strangers and hope to express my heartfelt thanks to them personally," she wrote in her Facebook post. "Their actions reaffirm my faith in humanity's capacity for goodness and inspire me to pay it forward."

Her post quickly circulated on Facebook with an outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community in the comments.

“Oh Carol, I am so thankful for the people who helped and that she is going to be ok. Prayers all around,” commented Beth White.

“So glad you had some guardian angels there to comfort you and that Josie will be ok!” wrote Jilian Guillory Sellers.

Many similar sentiments were echoed, with dozens of prayers and words of encouragement flooding in on Carol's post.

“Thank God for good people,” said Brooke Indest Hoogendoorn.

“How terrifying! Thank God for the kindness around us,” added Tara Clement Breaux.

Although it was one of the scariest moments of her life, Carol was reminded that there are good people ready to help. While the identities of the three women remain unknown, their acts of selflessness will forever be remembered by a family who needed them most.

We're glad to see baby Josie recovering and wish Carol and her family the best, as her shared experience reminded us just how much a single act of kindness can literally change everything.
