Lafayette Family of Bourbon Street Attack Victim, Tiger Bech, Speaks Out
The family of Tiger Bech, the 28-year-old Lafayette native and former STM and Princeton football standout tragically killed in the New Year’s Day terror attack on Bourbon Street, is sharing their heartbreak and hope in the aftermath of the tragedy. Speaking to NBC News, Tiger’s father, Martin, and brother, Jack, reflected on the devastating moment they learned of his death and the cherished Christmas memories they shared just days before the attack.
“Tiger was a light to everyone who knew him,” Martin Bech said. “It’s hard to fathom that someone who brought so much joy is no longer with us.”
Jack Bech, a former LSU player now at TCU, shared powerful words about his brother, emphasizing the strength of their bond: “You inspired me every day, and now I carry you with me in every moment. I’ve got this family, T. Don’t worry—this is for us.”
The Lafayette community has rallied around the Bech family, with messages of support flooding in. Comments on the interview describe the family’s strength and faith as “awe-inspiring” and “a testimony to their character.” One viewer wrote, “Jack’s words were so moving—this family’s faith is unshakable, even in the face of unimaginable pain.”
The New Orleans attack, carried out by a man authorities say was inspired by the Islamic State group, claimed 14 other lives, including an 18-year-old aspiring nurse and a father of two. Approximately 30 others were injured, leaving a trail of heartbreak across the Gulf Coast and beyond.
In Lafayette, where the Bech family is deeply loved, the community continues to grieve. Flowers, candles, and messages of support adorn local gathering spots as residents come together to honor Tiger’s legacy and support his family.
Our thoughts remain with the Bech family in the wake of this unimaginable loss while they still hold on to faith, love, and the cherished memories of their beloved Tiger.
