A major fire in Lafayette, Louisiana on Friday afternoon sent three people to the hospital, one being a firefighter who responded to the call.

KATC reports that the Lafayette Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 300 block of Anne Street at noon. Several callers indicated that the house was occupied at the time of the fire.

When firefighters arrived, they began a search of the home and later found two people escaping from the back of the home. Firefighters rendered medical assistance to those fleeing the home until paramedics arrived on the scene.

In addition to the occupants of the home being sent to the hospital, one firefighter was also taken to a medical facility with minor injuries.

The initial fire was so intense that the heat caused a nearby home to catch on fire too.

The cause of the fire in Lafayette is currently under investigation.
