UPDATE: LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - Lafayette Police are releasing more information after Comeaux High School was evacuated Thursday morning because of a bomb threat that was called into the school.

According to LPD's press release, the call came in from an unknown male to Comeaux High School Administration around 8:14 AM. During the phone call, the unknown male allegedly threatened to blow up the school. Lafayette Police School Resource Officers were then notified, safety protocols were immediately put into place, and all students and faculty were then escorted to a safe location away from the school while officers and additional personnel from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office and ULL Police Department joined together to investigate.

After a protective sweep and search of the entire school was done - including the use of a bomb sniffing canine - no device or threat was found. That's when the entire campus was deemed safe and students were escorted back to Comeaux High to resume their day under a 'shelter in place' status. That means visitors are not being allowed to enter or leave the campus.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Lafayette Police Department at 337-291-8600 or Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
