Locals Turn Paddle Boards into Makeshift Sleds at Lafayette Park
Winter Storm Enzo blanketed south Louisiana with more snow than we know what to do with. But one thing Louisiana folks do know how to do, no matter if there is rain, sleet, or snow, is pass a good time.

Once Lafayette got the final forecast showing major snowfall on Tuesday, grocery stores became lined with people eager to grab all of their storm essentials.
But others had more important things to worry about, even more important than making sure you have everything to make a giant gumbo, "where are we going sledding?"
Moncus Park announced that no vehicle access would be allowed, but the park would be open to pedestrians, stating that "all activities are at your own risk during these icy conditions. Exercise extreme caution if you choose to visit!"
Once locals got wind that the gates to the park would be open during the snowstorm, it didn't take long for people to start making plans.
Yesterday, people started discussing the idea of meeting up at one of Lafayette's parks, which are known for their massive hills. I, for one, am all for letting your inner child run rampant, especially when a once-in-a-lifetime event such as a Blizzard in Louisiana.
Even though we knew snow was a definite, I think many of us were still shocked to see over a foot in some areas dumped across Acadiana. Once day broke and the park opened, folks showed up to shred the snow in Moncus Park with anything they could find lying around in their garage.
No sled? No problem.
Videos show people of all ages using pool floats, paddle boards, and kayaks to sled down the massive hill that Moncus Park is known for.
I don't think anyone had 'sledding in Lafayette' on their 2025 bingo card, but we are so happy the community is getting out and enjoying the snow.
With one big push, the guys, on what looks like a paddle board, went down the hill with huge smiles on their faces.
We might not have sleds in Louisiana, but pool floaties will do just fine.
Kay Miller shared a video on Facebook of someone sledding down the hill on one of those blow-up boats you see people typically use at the beach.
If you went sledding in Acadiana today or plan to over the next couple days, share your photos with us in the comments.
