A viral report circulating on social media first brought attention to disturbing allegations involving Fields Funeral Home in New Iberia. The claims, shared by independent content creator True Crime Mama, described extremely poor conditions inside the building, including multiple deceased individuals and a lack of proper ventilation.

While many initially questioned the accuracy of those claims, the situation has since drawn official attention and prompted an inspection by local and state authorities.

Inspectors Confirm Unsanitary Conditions

According to reporting from local officials and media outlets, the City of New Iberia ordered the funeral home to vacate the property on May 7 after inspectors discovered serious sanitation issues.

Investigators reported a lack of functioning air conditioning and ventilation, along with what was described as a strong odor and visible residue on equipment inside the facility. Officials noted that the building was not in a condition suitable for operation.

Four bodies were also found inside the funeral home during the inspection. However, authorities stated there is no evidence supporting some of the more extreme claims circulating online regarding intentional mishandling.

Families Speak Out About Their Experiences

As details emerged, families who previously used the funeral home began sharing their own concerns. Some described troubling conditions during services and questioned whether their loved ones were properly cared for.

One family member told local media that the condition of their loved one prevented an open casket service, adding to their grief and frustration.

Investigation Still In Early Stages

The Louisiana Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors has confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Officials are expected to review whether the funeral home followed state laws regarding the handling, storage, and preparation of human remains. Questions surrounding licensing, sanitation practices, and building conditions are also part of the ongoing review.

At this time, it remains unclear whether any charges or disciplinary actions will be filed.

What Families Should Know

Authorities encourage anyone who may have recently entrusted the facility with a loved one’s care to contact appropriate state agencies for information.

This remains a developing story as more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
