A Louisiana State Trooper who is also a famous TikTok celebrity with millions of social media followers has been placed on leave over his involvement in a hit-and-run boating crash.

Justin Chaisson is a law enforcement officer with the Louisiana State Police but is also known under the alias Stalekracker on social media. Chaisson's Stalekracker character is known for his cooking videos and viral clips that highlight south Louisiana culture.

According to his website, Stalekracker has been featured on major sites like Tasty, Buzzfeed, Delish, and Mashed.

With catchphrases like "that's money dude" and "put that on a cracker" Chaisson built his Stalekracker brand into an internet sensation with millions of followers across multiple platforms.

As a self-proclaimed TikTok chef, Chaisson's Stalekracker fame has also led to a successful revenue stream as well with hats, t-shirts, seasoning, and more Stalekracker merch available in stores and online.

While Chaisson's internet alias is perpetually enjoying a fun-loving good time, in real life, he has been placed on leave from his job as a Louisiana State Trooper as many are questioning State Police as to why he has remained on duty after a hit-and-run boating crash that left a person injured back in July.

According to Chris Nakamoto with the WBRZ Investigative Unit, Chaisson was on a boat being driven by Bryan Nolan when it crashed into another vessel in Assumption Parish. Investigators say that Nolan and Chaisson fled the scene, but were intercepted by authorities while attempting to get away.

At the time, an off-duty Assumption Parish deputy came to the aid of the boaters that were hit by Nolan. That deputy radioed for help and law enforcement intercepted Chiasson and Nolan as they tried to get away. Nolan was arrested and charged with DWI and hit and run. Ten days later, he was arrested again and charged with negligent injuring, and two counts of careless operation of a watercraft.

WBRZ confirmed that Chaisson "never called for help or reported the wreck after it happened."

Jodi Sheets, a passenger on the boat, spoke with the WBRZ investigative team and described the crash as "the scariest moment" of her life.

We saw the vessel coming, and it was almost like I could see his face, and it kept getting bigger and bigger. It was in slow motion but very fast at the same time. All I could think about was I have nine people on this boat. If we all fly out, how am I going to get them back on this boat and them not drown?

Sheets says she supports law enforcement but feels like special treatment is at play due to the fact that the crash happened in July, but Chaisson wasn't placed on leave until October. State Police Col. Lamar Davis said that the delay was a result of "other agencies" conducting investigations.

we are not going to conduct parallel investigations. If there's no indication he's a threat to the public at that time, that's the info we use. If there's no information, we keep him on duty. Once we initiated our administrative investigation we saw fit to put Trooper Chiasson on leave and that's where it's at now

This is far from the first time Louisiana State Police has been under scrutiny for special treatment, as Davis himself made headlines back in July after he was caught driving over 90mph on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. Davis was stopped, but quickly let go after the Louisiana State Trooper who pulled him over for speeding and realized he had just stopped his boss.

After police dashcam video of the incident went viral in multiple news reports, Davis owned up to the incident saying "I need to slow my butt down."

Even after his admission, the incident didn't sit well with the general public as newly increased fines had just been announced for speeders on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.

Col. Davis says he expects the State Police investigation to "wrap up soon" but Sheets feels like special favors have already been given to Chaisson.

If that trooper was on his boat with his wife and children and his children's friends... and I left the scene and took the vessel out of the water and was on the road in the getaway truck, and I was stopped... I would have been put in jail that night. There's no doubt in my mind, no doubt in my mind.

A viral Facebook post from Louisiana Hot Topics featured a variety of mixed reactions to the story.

The comments ranged from those who were disappointed that Trooper Chaisson didn't call for help (or stay on the water for that matter) to those who felt like his hands were clean due to the fact that he wasn't technically driving the boat at the time of the crash.

There were others who felt like this was just another case of police officers getting special treatment while others were shocked to find out that the Stalekracker character was actually a Louisiana State Trooper from Houma.
