Hilarious LSU Homecoming ‘Pomping Prank’ Goes Viral

LSU's campus has been buzzing with homecoming festivities, but a recent incident has stolen the spotlight as LSU's chapter of the Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG) sorority found itself at the center of a unique prank. Their meticulously crafted pomping board, featuring representations of national champions Paul Skenes and Angel Reese, was reportedly vandalized on Sunday according to lsureveille.com, leaving the LSU community abuzz.

What's Pomping?

Pomping, a creative tradition where tissue paper is meticulously rolled into tiny balls and then used to craft extravagant artwork on signs or parade floats, is an integral part of LSU's homecoming week. This year's theme, "in our championship era," prompted Greek life chapters to create life-sized boards, which were displayed on their houses' lawns in a campus-wide competition.

KKG members and the Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) fraternity, spent hours crafting their unique board, which paid homage to national champions Paul Skenes and Angel Reese. However, this artistic display was not destined for a conventional fate.

The Homecoming Prank

It was confirmed by Kaiya Phillips, an elementary education senior and KKG member, that parts of the board had been taken around 11 p.m. on Sunday. An anonymous user on Yik Yak, a chat forum based around college campuses, had ominously declared: "After [tonight] Kappa's board will be no more." This proclamation was met with emojis symbolizing fire and a firetruck in response.

Members of AGR fraternity reportedly took matters into their own hands, quite literally, by using an electric saw to remove the sections featuring Skenes and Reese. They then absconded with these cutouts, leaving the KKG board visibly altered.

Before the sign was dismantled, the @lsuchicks Instagram page had its share of fun, comparing Skenes' portion of the sign to the South Park character Randy Marsh in a post. In another humorous twist, pomped Skenes was playfully photoshopped side-by-side with the famous gymnast Olivia Dunne.

The Prank Went Viral

The tale of the sign's downfall was widely shared on social media, particularly a post by TikTok user @francieoliver, which quickly went viral, amassing over 10,000 likes and 60,000 views.

Brooke Bordelon, a senior majoring in public relations and sports commerce and the KKG president, admitted they had no inkling of AGR's playful plans but praised their dedication to the prank. In a lighthearted response to the incident, she shared, "Some of the girls had been texting AGR members like, 'Give us back our king and queen!' We were really unsure how to go about it, so we just played into the memes and rolled with it. It was a funny way to wrap up the whole week."

Social media reactions have varied, with some expressing disapproval for the vandalism, but a Yik Yak user offered a different perspective, saying, "they're the only board that got stolen [I guess] you can call that a win?"

Despite the incident, AGR fraternity has not immediately responded to requests for comment from the Reveille.
