Louisiana Woman Killed in Fatal Crash Involving Two 18-Wheelers After Her Car Veered Off I-12
An early morning crash involving multiple vehicles claimed the life of a 25-year-old woman on Friday (Apr. 7).
According to Louisiana State Police, Maegan Breaux of Des Allemands was traveling on Interstate 12 in Livingston Parish.
For reasons that are still under investigation, Breaux exited the roadway to the left, at which point her 2021 Toyota Camry collided with the cable barrier in the median. After striking the barrier, Breaux re-entered the roadway before coming to rest at the centerline of the interstate.
As her vehicle came to a stop, two 18-wheelers were barreling toward her on the interstate—each 18-wheeler occupying a separate lane with one in front of the other as the semi trucks traveled eastbound on I-12.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Breaux was driving a 2021 Toyota Camry headed east on Interstate 12. For reasons still being investigated, Breaux exited the roadway to the left, striking the cable barrier, and re-entered the roadway prior to coming to rest at the centerline. At the same time, a 2007 Kenworth 18-Wheeler was in the right lane of travel headed east and a 2021 Freightliner 18-Wheeler was in the left lane traveling behind the Kenworth. For reasons still being investigated, Breaux began to exit her vehicle at which point the Kenworth swerved to the left, and struck the rear end of the Camry and Breaux. The Kenworth also impacted the Freightliner, which subsequently exited the roadway to the left into the median.
Breaux was able to exit her vehicle but was still hit by one of the 18-wheelers which also crashed into her car despite swerving left. The second 18-wheeler crashed into the first 18-wheeler before exiting the roadway left into the median.
Police say that Breaux suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Both 18-wheeler drivers were properly restrained and did not sustain injuries in the crash that remains under investigation.
