A Lafayette family is sharing their grief after their loved one was identified as the victim in a deadly shooting that happened early Sunday morning on Mother’s Day.

Police say the shooting occurred around 4:30 a.m. on May 10 in the parking lot of Whataburger on West Pinhook Road. The victim was transported to a local hospital by a personal vehicle, where he was later pronounced dead.

UPDATE: Suspect Arrested In Connection To Mother’s Day Homicide

Lafayette Police have confirmed a suspect has now been arrested in connection with the deadly Mother’s Day shooting.

According to authorities, 21-year-old Willis Carron of Breaux Bridge has been taken into custody and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. He is facing one count of second-degree murder and two counts of simple battery.

Police have not yet released additional details about what led to the arrest. The investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities have identified the victim as 21-year-old Nathaniel Julian of Breaux Bridge.

Investigators have not yet said what led up to the shooting, and the case remains under active investigation as detectives continue working to develop leads.

“The Hardest Mother’s Day Ever”

For Julian’s family, the loss is especially painful given the timing.

“He was my only son. It’s the hardest Mother’s Day ever. I wouldn’t wish this on anybody,” his mother said.

Loved ones describe Julian as someone full of personality, known for making people laugh and bringing energy into any room.

“He always cracks a joke about anything. He stayed to himself. He was always the life of the party,” a family member shared.

According to KLFY News 10, relatives say Julian had been home earlier that night before unexpectedly leaving, never imagining it would be the last time they would see him.

Family Pleads For Answers As Investigation Continues

As Lafayette Police continue their investigation, Julian’s family is now asking for accountability.

“For the little guy, to turn yourself in,” his mother said.
