The Carencro Mardi Gras Association has revised its music policy for the upcoming 2024 parade. The association has now decided to permit DJs to play music on the floats, a change from their earlier decision to provide a preset music playlist. This policy shift comes as a result of unresolved technical issues that have emerged just weeks before the parade is set to roll on January 27, 2024.

In a recent announcement, the association emphasized that while DJs will be allowed on the floats, strict guidelines will be in place to ensure the parade maintains its family-friendly atmosphere.

Most notable among these rules is the banning of open microphones on floats, and the requirement that all music, including songs with obscene lyrics remixed to radio versions, will not be allowed. While the latest version of these rules will technically eliminate a vast majority of records, both current and classic, that can be played at the parade, the association is taking a firm stance on maintaining their strict music rules, stating that any DJ who violates these rules will forfeit their deposit and face a ban from future parades.

All DJs participating in the parade will be required to register with the Carencro Mardi Gras Association, allowing for better oversight and adherence to the established guidelines. This latest decision from the CMGA seems like an attempt to possibly find a balance between preserving the traditional "laissez-faire" spirit of the Mardi Gras parade and addressing the concerns of the community regarding appropriate music content.

The Carencro Mardi Gras Parade is a prominent event during carnival season but has been the subject of much discussion in recent years, particularly regarding music choices and their impact on what some would describe as a family-friendly parade environment.

The latest, and hopefully final update from the association will hopefully ensure a positive and inclusive experience for all.
