Woman in Opelousas, Louisiana Struck by Gunfire While Sitting in Car
The Opelousas Police Department responded to a report of a shooting around 10:00 p.m. on Monday night (Sept. 18) near Academy and Laurent Streets.
Assistant Police Chief Mark Guidry said that once on scene officers found an adult female victim suffering from a non-life-threatening injury after a vehicle she was sitting in was struck by several rounds of gunfire.
Authorities believe that the shots may have been fired from a passing vehicle.
Police are not clear, however, if the victim was hit directly by the gunfire or if she was injured by fragments resulting from the shots hitting the vehicle.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and we'll update this story as more information becomes available.
