Weather Service Confirms Below Normal Temperatures for Louisiana Next Week
(KMDL-FM) The science of weather is all about guessing. It's scientific guessing, but it's guessing nonetheless. We guess about the tropics all the time in the form of "spaghetti models." And let's face it, even if you're one of the world's greatest weather guessers, like Rob Perillo on KATC or the Temu Perillo on the other channel, you are at best taking scientific data and speculation and preparing an educated guess about what the weather is going to do.
Besides the tropics, the other weather phenomenon we like to guess about in South Louisiana is cold weather. I would be willing to bet that between all of the media outlets along I-10, we have successfully predicted 3 out of the last 25 winter weather events. Which is why many of you might have trepidation when we tell you that our 105 to 110 degree heat indices might be taking a significant break for next week.

Many of the weather model projections, like the Global Forecast System model, the one that a few days ago showed a tropical threat in the Gulf, are now suggesting that the system will not be an issue for Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, or Florida.
How Cool Will It Be in Louisiana Next Week?
Now, the GFS, which is a favorite model of the National Weather Service, along with other forecasting tools, is suggesting that the major player in South Louisiana's forecast will be a cold front. Yeah, a legitimate cold front in August.
Here is how the Climate Prediction Center is viewing the temperature outlook for next week.
Those lovely shades of blue and grayish blue actually extend into Louisiana. Granted, the graphic does seem to suggest the I-10 corridor won't reap the benefits of this cold front, but I have a sneaking suspicion we will feel some benefit.

While we might not have blue skies, mild temperatures, and pleasant mornings in South Louisiana next week, we certainly will experience a drop in temperatures of five to seven degrees, and the heat index probably won't get a mention in any of next week's forecasts.
When Will It Start to Feel Cooler In Louisiana?
Most of us will notice the drop in temperatures and a reduction in humidity in the latter part of next week. One forecast outlet suggests that overnight low temperatures will fall into the upper 60s by Wednesday and Thursday of next week, and afternoon high temperatures will only climb into the upper 80s.
