Waffle House Just Made Dining in Louisiana Better

(KMDL-FM) If you ask almost any southerner what they think about Waffle House restaurants, you're likely to get an answer that comes complete with a story. Waffle House is one of Louisiana's great "story" restaurants. The all-night eatery whose yellow sign shines like a beacon of hope to the all-night traveler or those who have been overserved.

And it's during those times of late-night travel or in a state of "too much service at the bar" that our best stories unfold. And for many Southerners, the perfect setting to tell those stories is in a booth in a small dining facility where the windows are dripping wet because of the air conditioner.

And while those of us in the South grew up on the food, we grew up more on the stories and facts of life we learned over a pecan waffle or a Texas Cheesesteak Melt while seated at a Waffle House.

When Did Waffle House Start Closing on Friday and Saturday Nights?

You probably heard that Waffle House had to change its all-night business model a few years back. Evidently, the all-night crowd on Friday and Saturday nights was posing too much of a security risk, so Waffle House closed the dining room. They still serve food to go, but you don't have the ambience you once had, at least on those two late-night evenings.

And because Waffle House is really a Waffle "Home" to some of us, I think we've found a solution to your need for all-night dining and no place to sit. What if you could wrap up your evening in the club, at the festival, or while trying to understand common core math, and just head to your house? And then make arrangements for Waffle House to be delivered to your home?

That is now possible thanks to a new agreement between Waffle House and DoorDash. The food delivery service will be adding Waffle House to its growing list of eateries that it works with. And, because DoorDash understands the real appeal of Waffle House, Dashers will be allowed to make deliveries in the all-night hours.

Where Is Waffle House All-Night Delivery Available?

Okay, here's the bad news, and I apologize, I probably got you all excited about having Waffle House delivered in the overnight hours. Currently, the service is only available in the New Orleans area in Louisiana. You could also get all-night Waffle House delivered in Atlanta, Charleston, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Nashville.

The assumption would be that if all goes well, the delivery service would be added to other cities and towns as the need arises. But, just like that bright yellow sign glowing along the interstate in the dead of night, at least we have a beacon to follow and the light of hope to aspire to. I am a little over the top on the whole Waffle House thing, aren't I?
