Thursday Shootings in St Martinville & Lafayette Leave One Dead and Two in Hospital
Two separate shootings in Acadiana have left one person dead and two people in local hospitals with significant injuries.
The first shooting happened in St. Martinville late in the afternoon. According to Police Chief Rickey Martin, one man was shot and killed while a second person was also shot and transported to a local hospital with severe injuries.
Upon arrival, officers located two males shot multiple times inside a vehicle.
The body of 19-year-old Christopher Jones was located just after 5:00 pm near Porter Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The other person has not been identified by the SMPD.

Later in the evening, the Lafayette Police Department was called to the scene of a shooting that took place in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr Drive.
Officers received a call of gunshots being fired just after 8:00 pm. Once on the scene, officers located a male suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical, but stable condition.
