Buc-ee's is a big deal in Texas. People in Louisiana really want Buc-ee's to become a big deal here too. The "Texas-sized" travel centers are known far and wide for not only the immense size of their operation but Buc-ee's can lay claim to some pretty good food too.

Here in Louisiana fans of "The Beaver", that's the Buc-ee's mascot, have been clamoring for a location to be built here. We thought we had one a few years ago but that opportunity which was reported to be in the Baton Rouge area fell through.

The most current plans call for a Buc-ee's to be built near Ruston on I-20. That store is set to open in 2025. Meanwhile, in 2024 the company plans to open a new store on I-10. That location will be on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Harrison County. It's about half an hour east of the Louisiana/Mississippi line.

And while most of the time when we write about Buc-ee's the news is positive this time it's not. In fact, it's quite disturbing. The son of Buc-ee's co-founder Donald Wasek has been arrested. According to reports MItchell Wasek has been arrested and charged with 28 counts of invasive visual recordings.

According to reports, a woman and her friends were staying with Mitchell Wasek at Donald Waske's lake house on Lake Travis. During this time it is alleged that guests noticed at least one hidden camera plugged into a charging port in one of the home's bathrooms.

The group left the house with the cameras and reviewed the footage and discovered some 68 videos of people "using toilets, showering, changing clothes, and/or having sex". That information was included in a report published by KXAN Television out of Austin Texas.

It is important to note that the allegations of video cameras in bathrooms are not being made about Buc-ee's retail locations. The events in which that kind of activity has been alleged were in a private home. There have been no allegations of hidden video equipment in any retail location of Buc-ee's throughout the chain's footprint.

It was also noted in the KXAN report that Mitchel Wasek allegedly purchased "spy cameras" online. The television station also noted in its report that they had reached out to Donald Waske, Mitchell Wasek, and attorneys who represent them but no phone calls had been returned.

If convicted of the crimes he is charged with, Mitchell Wasek could face a sentence of up to two years. We should note that all accused should be presumed innocent of any wrongdoing pending the outcome of this investigation and potential court proceedings.
