UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Rasheed Carmouche, 26, of Lafayette. Investigators have arrested the alleged suspect responsible for the shooting, 29-year-old Thomas Woods of Lafayette. He was arrested and booked on a warrant for one count of second-degree murder and one count of illegal discharge of weapons.

Woods was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. It was later learned through further investigation that the shooting actually occurred in the 2700 block of E. Simcoe Street. Carmouche was walking along the 2700 block of E. Simcoe when Woods shot him.


 

ORIGINAL STORY: The Lafayette Police Department responded to a shooting last night around 6:07 pm in the 2500 block of E. Simcoe Street. Once on the scene, officers discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to LPD Sgt. Robin Green, officers immediately began rendering life-saving measures until emergency personnel arrived. However, the victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital as a result of his injuries.

Homicide investigators were on the scene last night to gather information and attempt to piece together the facts.

The identity of the deceased male has not been made public. More information regarding this homicide will be released as it becomes available.
